Here at EcoWater Systems Texas we have a thirst for knowledge about all things water.
It’s not hard to do when you’re the experts in the water filtration and purification industry. That also means it’s our duty to provide you with water resources and help you understand the importance of water down to every last molecule!
You probably already know that ¾ of our bodies are made up of water, as is the entire world! 🌎
It’s the lifeblood of the earth, and what we first look for when exploring other planets! It keeps us healthy and fuels our bodies. It’s in everything we do, all day long, from our first cup of coffee in the morning to the last drip of the faucet when we brush our teeth at night.
It’s the most important substance on earth and is considered the “Universal Solvent”. But what does that mean?
Water we waiting for? 😆 Let’s talk about it.
Water Is A Magnet
When we were younger we had so much fun watching things dissolve in water. But did we ever know how it did that? It’s because water acts like a magnet. 🧲
Pure water sits on the pH scale as a 7 which is the exact middle meaning it is not Alkaline or Acidic (check out our blog “How Is Alkalinity Different From pH Level” for more information about this!). The makeup of Water H2O means that it has slight positive ions and slight negative ions. These ions act as the magnet and attract the opposite charged ion of the other and pull them towards it like a magnet would!
This means that water can dissolve *almost* every substance on the planet! I.e. why it’s called the Universal Substance!
As substances enter water, the molecules of water then pull the molecules of that substance apart, thus eventually dissolving it! Sometimes it happens quickly, and other times, it takes a while!
For example, salt dissolves in water quickly because it has positive and negative ions which are attracted to the magnet molecules (both positive and negative) of the water.
On the other side, sugar doesn’t dissolve quickly because it’s made up of larger, more complex molecules. There is nothing for the “magnet” to attract to it, so it has to surround it and pull it apart. Basically, the water has to work harder to dissolve it!
Water Carries It All
As the water dissolves the substances, it takes on that substance. Like when you add salt, you get salt water.
It picks up minerals and nutrients easily and that is a good and bad thing.
When it comes to your drinking water it’s not always a great thing.
When pure rain falls from the sky, it picks up small particles from the air. Then, it hits the ground and absorbs all sorts of things. Pesticides, fertilizers, automotive fluids, animal waste, and just about everything that flows into the storm drains.
And then, after leaving the city reservoirs it is filtered and cleaned but as it travels through the ground pipes it can pick up calcium, magnesium, and contaminants like lead or harmful chemicals.
The water absorbing these minerals is also what causes water hardness, odd tastes and odors.
This is why it is extremely important to never drink water that has possibly been contaminated or hasn’t been treated properly.
We hate to bring up Flint, Michigan, but because of improper water testing and filtration, along with the lead pipes caused the residents to struggle with lifelong health issues due to what the water absorbed and carried into their homes through the faucets.
The Final Sip
Water filtration is KEY to eliminating any contaminants, chemicals, PFAs and more from your water. Even if the water has been filtered at the site of origin, it doesn’t mean it will arrive that way once it makes its way to your home.
Why Ecowater? Our advanced whole home water systems are designed to ensure that you only get the highest quality, freshest tasting drinking water on the planet. Not only is it great for drinking but it improves all aspects of life where you use water (washing dishes, washing clothes and bathing).
If you live in the DFW and surrounding areas, it’s time to rethink your water situation; it’s time to discuss how we can elevate your water and improve your home!
